Barbara Hernandez

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

I work with adults, teens, young children and families. Working with clients of all ages requires a special talent and a deep understanding of how our experiences in our younger years affect how we are as adults.

With teens and pre-teens, my goal is to establish an environment of trust where the child feels free to talk about problems they don’t want to talk with parents or friends about (friends, parents, relationships, school, etc.).

With young children, I incorporate play therapy to address management of Trauma, ADHD, ODD and other childhood behavioral problems. I use Cognitive Behavioral therapy to help clients identify distorted thought processes that may be hindering them from moving forward in their lives. In addition, I also utilizes person-centered therapy which provides warmth, empathy and honesty with my clients and encourages self-discovery and growth.

I received my Masters in Clinical Social Work from the University of Southern California with an emphasis in Families and Adolescents. My training has included working with individuals and families who have lost a loved one as well as youth who are dealing with traumatic issues such as child exploitation or victimization and difficult life transitions. I am certified in a number of therapeutic techniques to help us navigate the journey to well-being, including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, among others.

I look forward to working with you and your family.
